Thank you, Dear Pope Benedict!

Photo of Pope Benedict taken by Marian LambertWe will miss you, Holy Father!

Thank you, dear Pope Benedict, for the blessing that you have been to all of us, and may God bless you richly in the days ahead!

Here are the words of our beloved Pope Benedict XVI as he gave his final address as Pope:

“Dear friends, I’m happy to be with you, surrounded by the beauty of creation and your well-wishes which do me such good. Thank you for your friendship, and your affection. You know this day is different for me than the preceding ones: I am no longer the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, or I will be until 8 o’clock this evening and then no more.

I am simply a pilgrim beginning the last leg of his pilgrimage on this Earth. But I would still … thank you … I would still with my heart, with my love, with my prayers, with my reflection, and with all my inner strength, like to work for the common good and the good of the church and of humanity. I feel very supported by your sympathy.

Let us go forward with the Lord for the good of the church and the world. Thank you, I now wholeheartedly impart my blessing. Blessed be God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Good night! Thank you all!”

And now … well, this website sums it all up … www.isthereapope.com

450px-St_Peter_Basilica_light_streams We now wait with great anticipation for the new leader of our beautiful Church  — I can hardly wait until I hear the words — Habemus Papam!

Dear Lord, please continue to bless Your Church and please guide with great care those who are entrusted with the duty of choosing the one who will shepherd Your flock.

STAY TUNED………………………….

A Message of Hope From Fr. Joe Hennessy

October 27th, 2012
by goforthandblog

I had the great privilege of attending Mass tonight with this gentle priest and found his blog to be very inspirational.

From Fr. Joe Hennessy’s “Aisling on Earth” File:Rho Ophiuchi.jpg

“Climb the mountain and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The wind will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like falling leaves.” John Muir one of the wildernesses greatest champion penned this many years ago. Today, more than ever we desperately need to take his advice. We as individuals, families and nation are in great need of a source of peace. A source that will touch our, hearts, souls and minds. A source that will be available to all and at a great price. Mother nature surrounds us with her many, many gifts. These vivifying, transforming gifts are offered to each of us free of charge. Are these gifts always accepted? Unfortunately, no, is the sad answer. As human beings we are endowed with the gift of free will. We for our part , have been given the freedom to enjoy, celebrate or ignore. Why is it that these gifts are so ignored? Very simple these wonder-full gifts have become so familiar, we have lost the ability and the desire to delve into the wonder, The Mystery both hidden and revealed in that which is real. We, as members of the human race ,of our essence, are religious. (Again, this is what I had to learn early on in the priesthood: “You do not put religion into humankind, you create that which will free that which is already within. As it was so it is, and ever shall be.) We all called to encounter The Mystery, The Real. Because of this encounter we are slowly led to an ever deepening awareness of the sacredness of, the real. We will be drawn into an ever deeper encounter with the mystery that lies deep within. If it lies deep within, then it only stands to reason we will have to go deep. Nothing of value will come to us unless the take that risk of plunging into the depths.”

Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin’s Speech Before He was Kidnapped

July 16th, 2012
by goforthandblog

Please pray for Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin! He was taken from his parish after his ordination and has not been heard from since.  He may be China’s latest Catholic martyr! Below is an English translation of his ordination speech, as translated by Asia News.  May God bless this brave and holy Bishop!!

From: http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Brave-Shanghai-auxiliary-takes-%E2%80%9Cperiod-of-rest%E2%80%9D-in-seminary-25234.html

CHINA – VATICAN
Brave Shanghai auxiliary takes “period of rest” in seminary
by Jian Mei

Full text of Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin of Shanghai’s Vote of thanks:

“Most Respectful His Excellency Bishop Jin, All the brothers and sisters:

Greetings to all of you.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your blessing. You have given me countless grace, and today you have chosen me, a very humble man, a weak one.

I thank God for His grace. Today, thank you Bishop Jin, under such hot weather (34 degree Celsius), came to ordain me. I also thank the other two co-consecrators Bishop Xu and Bishop Shen. Bishop Jin, I wholeheartedly accept your laying of hands and your blessings.

Thank you for all bishops and priests, as well as all the seminarians, sisters and the faithful in the church, especially those traveled here from afar. Your presence has given me confidence and strength. During this time, you have incessantly prayed for our diocese and for me, a humble and small one with shallow knowledge. My parents and the elderly in the family have nurtured me since childhood with our Church tradition and faith. Since I entered the seminary, I have been following the traditional Church education that our ancestors and predecessors observed. I will work hard and dedicate my whole life to follow the example of Jesus and to become a Good Shepherd.

May I also thank those priests, sisters, seminarians and laypeople who have not been in this Eucharist, because of limitation of seats or of other reasons. God does not see the appearance but understand one’s heart, and justice is revealed there. Man proposes, but it is God who will make things happen. I would like to let you know: I love you! Please pray for each other! (Long applause.)

The motto of my coat-of-arms came from two famous quotations. The first one is what Bishop Jin always taught us during our seminary days. It is a quote borrowed from Saint Ignatius – “For the Greater Glory of God” (Ad majorem Dei gloriam). In this present moment, in this place, we have to choose a way that will serve God with greater glory.

The second quotation I selected is “We are one”. I hope everyone, in our heart, will respond to Jesus Christ’s teachings to the Apostles: “May all be one!” I will spend my whole life to strive for unity.

In the light of the teaching of Our Mother Church, as I now serve as a bishop, I should focus on the pastoral work and evangelization. It is inconvenient for me to take on certain responsibilities. Therefore, from this day of consecration, I will no longer be convenient to be a member of the Patriotic Association. (Warm applause resounded through the church, over and over again; many participants were moved to tears!)”

May we be one. For the Greater Glory of God!”

Where is Bishop Ma Daqin? Is He Catholic China’s Latest Martyr?

July 10th, 2012
by goforthandblog

Bishop Ma’s Announcement

Where is China’s Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin?  He has been missing since he showed extraordinary courage and made the above announcement.  He has been removed by Chinese officials, and is not in the place where they told reporters that they placed him.  Where is he? Has he been harmed?

We pray that he has not been martyred by Chinese officials!

Please save face, Chinese officials, and return him unharmed to the people!  Let us see him and know that he has not been harmed! The West is watching very intently and we are evaluating what is really going on in China.  What kind of people are ruling China? Let us know that evil is not being done to this brave and honorable Bishop! Let us know that he has not been made a martyr for his Faith!

Thank you!

May God bless him! And God bless all of the brave and honorable  Catholics in China!

Fortnight for Religous Freedom

June 23rd, 2012
by goforthandblog

Please join us in prayer from now until July 4th for religious freedom in America!

From the USCCB site:

Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty

O God our Creator,

Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel
to every corner of society.

We ask you to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome—
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us—
this great land will always be “one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Quote for the Day

“The challenge facing you, dear friends, is to increase people’s awareness of the importance for society of religious freedom; to defend that freedom against those who would take religion out of the public domain and establish secularism as America’s official faith.  And it is vitally necessary for the very survival of the American experience, to transmit to the next generation the precious legacy of religious freedom and the convictions which sustain it.”—  Blessed John Paul II, 1995 Baltimore, Basilica of the Assumption

by goforthandblog
From Pope Benedict XVI:
“I find myself on the last stretch of my journey in life, and I don’t know what is awaiting me.”

“I know, however, that the light of God exists, that he is risen, that his light is stronger than any darkness and that God’s goodness is stronger than any evil in this world, and this helps me go forward with certainty.”

Happy 85th  Birthday, Holy Father!!!!

One of the Best Movies of the Year: October Baby

March 28th, 2012
by goforthandblog

http://octoberbabymovie.net/

banner

I didn’t expect to be blown away. But I was.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one.  This movie was rejected by the major studios and yet it has become a sleeper hit — blitzing the box offices and coming in second only to Hunger Games.

It’s a complete blockbuster of a movie.  And it deserves every bit of its success.

I was mesmerized from the start of the movie and couldn’t take my eyes off of the screen until the end. I haven’t cried this much since “Les Miserables,” and haven’t seen this good a movie in a long, long time.

I imagine that you’ve heard the premise.  A young girl discovers a secret about her past which shakes her world.  She then takes a journey to find out who she really is.

Or as one viewer (Jan Scruggs) eloquently put it:

“As the mother of three adopted children,I think this film is a must-see for all that want to understand more about the heart-ripping journey that all adopted children must take as they come to terms with being rejected by one family and wanted by another……………There was not a “dry eye in the house” because all ages were touched by this hurting teenager searching for meaning to her life. We have all been there.”

See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1720182/reviews

It’s an incredible story, and if you watch it you won’t be disappointed.

Movie viewers at Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 94%

Some of the professional reviewers hated it.

I couldn’t figure out what in the world they could find wrong with it.  But then I saw their reviews, and realized that what they said told me more about the reviewers than it did about the movie. It appears that others had the same impression.*

I urge you to go and see the movie for yourself.  You won’t regret it.

Please Pray for Our Supreme Court this Monday Morning, March 26!

March 24th, 2012
by goforthandblog

See: Liberty and Obamacare

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304724404577291762007718228.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

The Supreme Court is deciding an issue that may have an enormous effect on our Constitutional freedom. From the Wall Street Journal:

“Few legal cases in the modern era are as consequential, or as defining, as the challenges to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that the Supreme Court hears beginning Monday. The powers that the Obama Administration is claiming change the structure of the American government as it has existed for 225 years. Thus has the health-care law provoked an unprecedented and unnecessary constitutional showdown that endangers individual liberty.”

So please pray for our Supreme Court and for the United States of  America!

If you would like to pray the rosary with others, here is a lovely site to help:

God bless you and may God bless America!
